On a recent trip to Hollywood, Florida, travel writer Lavanya Sunkara stayed at The Diplomat Resort & Spa Hollywood. Here’s her take on the experience.
It’s hard not to feel like a celebrity when you enter the immaculate, sprawling lobby of the Diplomat Resort & Spa, a Curio Collection by Hilton hotel, with palm trees reaching to the mezzanine, in Hollywood, Florida. Everything about this resort is grand, from its two sparkling towers of 39 floors overlooking the Atlantic to the massive, pillar-free grand ballroom.
Situated on a secluded barrier island between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, the high rise overlooks the ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway. It’s just a mile from downtown Hollywood and nine miles from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, making it the perfect choice for corporate gatherings and weddings. If cruising is on your agenda, Port Everglades – the third busiest passenger port in the world – is just minutes away.
With 998 sleek, impeccably designed guest rooms and suites with private balconies, including a two-bedroom Presidential suite, this magnificent beachfront property is a must-visit. You’ll find six sophisticated onsite dining and nightlife spots, including Fresh, offering a variety of healthy, gourmet meals; Rivals Waterfront Sports Bar, is the ideal atmosphere to relax outdoors as the open kitchen serves up American cuisine complemented by signature martinis and wines. Two beachfront pools and waterfalls flowing into a freeform lagoon pool beckon you to cool down from the Florida sunshine.
The resort includes an onsite convention center, outdoor meeting and event areas, totaling over 200,000 square feet of function space. This includes a 50,000 square foot Great Hall bathed in natural sunlight, four ballrooms, and 39 additional breakout rooms, all facing vibrant oceanic waves. Guests can attend to business while enjoying refreshing views of the never ending shore. Acclaimed chefs from the world's most prestigious resorts and an expert banquet team ensure that every guest’s needs are well accommodated.
Daily entertainment and fitness classes include beach yoga and paddleboard lessons. When traveling with your children, the Kids Club provides supervised activities, so you can take a break. The Spa at the Diplomat Resort offers a diverse menu of facial and body treatments in 10 treatment rooms within its 14,000 square feet.
Rent ocean kayaks and jet skis, play beach volleyball, or a round of golf a mile away on an 18-hole championship golf course. Stroll the boardwalk and take in the art and culture of historic Hollywood. Fort Lauderdale’s Las Olas Boulevard is just a water taxi ride away, where you can browse the fashion boutiques, art, and specialty shops. In the evening, enjoy the vivacious nightlife with lively bars, incomparable restaurants, and chic nightclubs.
Craving some time outdoors? Book a half or full-day eco-tour of the enchanting Everglades, located only 30 minutes away. Music lovers can hit up the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino for a fun day of gaming amidst a backdrop of artifacts from rock royalty ranging from Madonna’s Like a Virgin wedding dress and Slash’s top hat to John Lennon’s boots. Grab a bite at the diverse offerings at the food court or splurge with your earnings at the upscale Kuro restaurant for artisanal, authentic Japanese delights. If you’d like to simply stay close to the water, the resort’s private marina offers fishing and sailing charters.
Whether you want to mix business with pleasure, or simply want to get away from it all, the Diplomat Hollywood Spa & Resort can make your vacation dreams come true.
