Hotel Review: St. Kitts Marriott Resort and Royal Beach Casino

On a recent trip to the Caribbean island of St. Kitts, travel writer Breanna Wilson stayed at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort and Royal Beach Casino. Here’s her take on the experience.
St. Kitts. You may have never heard of this tiny Caribbean island, which is a total shame, but also an awesome thing for the travelers-in-the-know. Which you now are.
St. Kitts is part of the country of St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Kitts being the larger of the two islands. It’s a lush island with beautiful beaches and even more beautiful people. St. Kitts feels familiar thanks to things like the national language being English, and the island itself isn’t overwhelming – it’s small enough to drive around in a few hours! The can’t miss stopping point when exploring the island is Timothy Hill, this is one of the most popular pictures that you’ll find of the island, it’s where you can see the Atlantic Ocean on one side of the island and the Caribbean Sea on the other.
The Hotel
The St. Kitts Marriott Resort and Royal Beach Casino is great. Great for families. Great for couples. Great for solo travelers. So great that even Travel + Leisure called it one of the World’s Best Caribbean Resorts. It’s your classic 4-star resort. There’s a massive pool (great for kids) that separates the monstrous hotel from the beach, where chairs, umbrellas and tables are always set up and available for guest use. This side of the island is the Atlantic side, so the waters will be much chillier and rougher than you might expect to find in the Caribbean. None the less, you’re still in the Caribbean, on a tropical island far away from home, so there’s nothing to really complain about here.
The beachside open air bar is a nice touch, along with the pool’s swim-up bar so that guests don’t have to leave the pool just to grab an adult-friendly tropical drink.
The casino within the hotel is a popular hangout for tourists and locals. And the bar inside the casino can be the place to be on a Saturday night. From local students from one of the nearby universities to guests like myself, the music here brought everyone together on the dancefloor.
Rooms are comfortable, clean and just what you’d expect from a Marriott resort. I was blessed with a top floor ocean-facing balcony, which always makes a stay that much better. There are plenty of dining options on the property, and the morning breakfast buffet quickly became one of my favorite parts of the hotel. The café just in front of the breakfast dining area was another favorite – especially when I needed to grab a coffee as I was walking out of the resort’s doors. Plus they have food for sale that’s easy to carry, so I was always prepared with an emergency snack.
Location, Location, Location
From the hotel you’re central to just about everything. Again, the island is small, so really everything is central, but here you’re close to lively nightlife (the beach bars just down the road are especially fun at night), beautiful beaches (head to Shipwreck Beach Bar and Grill to snorkel and hang out at a black sand beach) and great restaurants (I recommend Sprat Net). There’s also an incredible golf course just outside of the hotel, you know, in case you’re into that sort of thing. All in all, the resort is a solid hotel with nothing over the top, but with everything that you need. I’d say if you’re a family looking for a tropical beach getaway, the St. Kitts Marriott and St. Kitts are your place.
