Hotel Review: The Hamilton Hotel, Washington D.C.

On a recent trip to Washington D.C., travel writer Breanna Wilson stayed at The Hamilton Hotel. Here’s her take on the experience.

Located on 14th Street Northwest between L Street and K Street, The Hamilton Hotel is in a great location for visitors wanting to check out the sites and monuments Washington D.C. is most famous for. Which is exactly why I chose The Hamilton Hotel as my hotel of choice for this trip.

From the outside, the hotel is nice looking with its 1920’s architecture and gold doors and entryway. Walking into the hotel the first thing I noticed was that the check-in desk to my left was very simple. Not that that’s a bad thing, it just would have been easily missed had someone not been standing behind it. The lobby at first glance seemed comfortable (not to work), set up with several couches and chairs for guests and visitors to relax on.

The receptionist was friendly and checked me in quickly. My room was on the 11th floor and the elevator works only with a room keycard. Something that can be a hassle when your room key is buried in your bag, but is a touch that I like since it means not just anyone can access my floor or my room.

The non-suite rooms aren’t extremely spacious, but are still comfortable and easy enough for two people to move around in. The room in general was fairly basic, but was clean and well equipped with plugs to charge all of my devices. There is an on-site fitness center and complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, including the rooms, which is always appreciated.

The hotel offers a women-only floor for female travelers who might be traveling solo. A nice touch in my opinion for female business travelers who might be coming in or going out of the hotel at various hours in the day.

The restaurant downstairs, 14k, has a lovely outside terrace for when the weather is nice. The menu is nothing to go crazy over and prices range in the middle price range, not too high, not too low. There’s also a Starbucks just off the lobby if you’re looking for a quicker coffee and food option.

Getting to the Monuments from the Hotel

An easy 10 minute walk to The White House and my day of sightseeing had begun. After taking in the beauty of the most famous house in America, I headed down to The National Mall (the Washington Monument, the National World War II Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial and more) on foot for picture-perfect views and an unforgettable experience.



I grabbed a taxi (Uber and Lyft are also money friendly options here) and was at my next destination, The International Spy Museum about $9.00 and 10 minutes later.

Note that all of the Smithsonian Museums are free to enter, as well as the U.S. Botanical Gardens. There is a fee to enter the International Spy Museum, but there’s some expectedly cool stuff in there, so you might find it worth the admission fee like I did.

Places that I enjoyed eating and drinking at in walking distance from the hotel include: Old Ebbitt Grill, barmini, The Round Robin & Scotch Bar at the InterContinental The Willard Washington D.C. and POV, the rooftop bar at the W Hotel.
